Business Statistics

Units 1–6 of a 14-unit syllabus β€” everything from a frequency table to the sampling distribution of a proportion. Built from the syllabus, the five lecture decks, your five sets of class notes, the Levin textbook, and both 2025-26 question papers with their official answer keys.

MID-TERM PORTION: UNITS 01–06 CODE: 703TM0C001 TEXTBOOK USED IN CLASS: LEVIN & RUBIN β€” STATISTICS FOR MANAGEMENT, 8E SOURCES: 645 RENDERED PAGES
β—† The single most useful finding

The two 2025-26 papers are the same paper twice β€” identical seven-slot skeleton, only the numbers and the story change. Seven of those slots sit inside Units 1–6, and they are worth 31 of the 50 marks: sampling distribution of the mean, Poisson, normal distribution, descriptive-statistics interpretation, sample size, Bayes, and standard error.

Learn those seven shapes and you have written most of a paper before you read it. All 16 in-scope questions worked in full β†’  Β·  44 extra problems solved step by step β†’

⚠ These are END-TERM papers, not past mid-terms

No previous mid-term paper was supplied. The two papers on this site are the Final Examination (29 Nov 2025) and the Re-Examination (06 Feb 2026), each covering all 14 units. Only their Units 1–6 questions are worked here; the rest are listed and labelled out of scope so you can see exactly what was left out. Treat the seven recurring shapes as evidence of how this department writes questions, not as a guaranteed mid-term structure.

STUDY METHODOLOGY

Each concept runs: Understand β†’ Method β†’ Worked example β†’ Common mistakes β†’ Sources. Each solved paper question runs: original question β†’ full solution in your class's notation β†’ marks breakdown against the official key.

Problem Solving β€” β€œHow to Solve Anything”

β—† New β€” the drilling layer

One page per unit, built topic by topic. Each topic opens with a master method β€” every formula typeset properly, the fixed solving routine, a pattern-recognition table telling you which shape you are looking at, how each of your sources writes it, and the traps β€” then ten questions worked in full in a two-column why / what to write layout, then ten more to attempt cold with the answer one click away.

Questions come from Levin's own exercise sets β€” every one the textbook prints on that topic, solved, with the page number against it so you can open the original. Where the book sets fewer than ten, extra exam-shaped questions are added.

Unit 04 β€” 6 topics, 84 questions (Poisson + normal, 9 marks) β†’
Unit 05 β€” 4 topics, 54 questions (sampling distribution of the mean, 7 marks) β†’
Unit 06 β€” 3 topics, 40 questions (sample size, 5 marks) β†’
Unit 03 β€” 4 topics, 55 questions (Bayes, 5 marks) β†’
Unit 02 β€” 4 topics, 54 questions (the Q3 a reading) β†’
Unit 01 β€” 5 topics, 174 questions β†’

Revision & Practice

The seven recurring question shapes inside Units 1–6

SlotWhat it always isUnitMarksSolved
Q1 (a)Sampling distribution of the mean β€” probability that xΜ„ falls in a symmetric interval52Both versions
Q1 (b)Poisson β€” "average Ξ» per interval", then P(X = 0) or P(X β‰₯ 1)44Both versions
Q2 (b)Normal distribution β€” an interval probability plus a one-tail "highly successful" probability45Both versions
Q3 (a)Read a table of mean / median / mode / SD / skewness / kurtosis for two service channels and interpret it1–25Both versions
Q3 (b)Sample size determination β€” for a mean (Final) or a proportion with no prior estimate (Re-Exam)65Both versions
Q5 (a)Bayes' theorem on a classifier β€” total probability, then the posterior, then a managerial insight35Both versions
Q5 (b)Standard error of the mean, then a probability for xΜ„5–65Both versions

Q4 (a) is a half-in-scope hybrid: it builds a confidence interval (Unit 7) but the standard error it needs uses the finite population correction from Unit 5. The FPC half is worked here.

Scope of this portion

This site covers Units 1–6 β€” descriptive statistics, probability, probability distributions and sampling theory. Units 7–14 (estimation, hypothesis testing, two-sample tests, the F test, ANOVA and chi-square) are in the syllabus Syllabus p. 2 but belong to the Term End Examination, so nothing has been written for them.

One boundary is deliberately blurred, because your class blurred it: the "Sample Size Determination" deck is titled "Unit 6 (Part II)" Deck slide 1, while the syllabus lists "Determination of Sample Size" under Unit 7. It is taught as Unit 6, both papers asked it, so it is in scope here β€” see Unit 6 Concept 5.
