⚠ Important accuracy note on the textbook edition

Your official syllabus and course policy document cite the textbook as "Operations and Supply Chain Management," Russell, Taylor, Saddikuti & Gudavalleti, 10th Edition (John Wiley, 2023). The actual PDF supplied in your OM folder, however, is Russell & Taylor's "Operations Management," 7th Edition (2011) β€” an earlier edition under a slightly different title, without the Indian co-authors.

The core concepts, formulas, and worked examples for your syllabus topics are essentially unchanged between these editions (verified topic-by-topic while building this site), but chapter numbers differ. Your course policy's instruction plan cites Chapters 1, 6, 7, 8, and 14 for various units; the actual 7th-edition PDF places the same content in Chapters 1, 6, 7 (+ Supplement 7), 13, and 17 respectively. This site cites page and chapter numbers from the actual 7th-edition PDF you have, since that is the material you can actually open and check β€” not the 10th edition's numbering, which this site's author has not seen. If your class discussions reference a different chapter number for the same topic, that discrepancy is why.

Correction log

⚠ Corrections made after a second source review
  • Bottleneck, throughput and buffer are textbook concepts after all. An earlier version of this site flagged them as lecture-only. They are in fact defined in Russell & Taylor Ch. 17, "Theory of Constraints" pp. 774–775, and the Unit 3 exam answers are now grounded there.
  • Capacity lead/lag/average strategies, facility-layout objectives, and the transformation-process types were previously attributed mainly to the lecture PPTs; all three are textbook material (Ch. 7 pp. 258–261, Ch. 1 p. 2) and are now cited accordingly.
  • Still lecture-only (verified absent from this textbook edition): the terms blocking and starving, Little's Law, the process-performance vocabulary (setup/run/operation/flow/value-added time, process velocity), and location breakeven analysis. Each is labelled as such on its own page.
